Best Nigeria & Ghana Tourism Websites Compared (2026)

By Ucomeafrik Team11 min read

The short version

Five top Nigeria and Ghana travel sites compared for 2026: Lonely Planet, Africa.com, TourRadar, viewGhana and GoWithGuide, and where Ucomeafrik fits.

Which are the best Nigeria and Ghana tourism websites in 2026?

The sites that surfaced most often for Nigeria and Ghana travel searches were Lonely Planet (inspiration), Africa.com (a general guide), TourRadar (a tour marketplace), viewGhana (a Ghana tour page powered by GetYourGuide) and GoWithGuide (private-guide listings). Each does one job well. None replaces a local operator when your trip crosses borders or needs on-the-ground support.

Disclosure: We are Ucomeafrik Tours, so we are not a neutral reviewer. Every fact about another site below comes from that site's own page and is dated, we point out where each one is the better tool, and you should verify the figures before relying on them. "Top ranking" here means the sites that appeared for our searches on 1 November 2026, not a formal ranking, because Google results differ by country and device.

How did we choose these five sites?

We searched for the questions travelers actually type: "Nigeria tourism travel guide", "Ghana tourism travel guide", "tours in Nigeria" and "tours in Ghana". We then kept the sites that appeared repeatedly and that a traveler could genuinely use to plan or book a trip, and set aside thin content pages, user-generated posts and affiliate pages with no original information.

The five fall into three types, and that distinction matters more than any individual brand. Inspiration sites help you decide where to go. Marketplaces and platforms let you compare or book tours from many sellers. Operators run the trip themselves. Mixing the types up is the most common planning mistake.

What does Lonely Planet offer for Nigeria and Ghana?

Lonely Planet publishes "best places to visit" pages for both countries, titled "8 of the best places to visit in Nigeria" and "best places to visit in Ghana". According to search-result summaries, its Nigeria picks include Abuja as a good introduction and Calabar for heritage and celebrations, alongside Zuma Rock and Yankari National Park.

Its strength is trusted editorial inspiration, and it also promotes "ready-to-book itineraries" crafted by its own team. The limits are practical: when we fetched the pages we saw navigation but not the article text, no author or date was visible, and an editorial page cannot confirm today's entry fees, visa fee or operator quality. Use it to choose a shortlist, then verify the details elsewhere.

What does Africa.com offer?

Africa.com's Nigeria travel guide is a free, general overview. It states that "all foreigners require a visa to enter Nigeria regardless of the length of the stay", recommends November to March and warns about Harmattan dust in December and January. It lists 15 attractions, including Calabar Carnival, Yankari Game Reserve, Osun-Osogbo and Kano.

The catch is age. The page is dated 22 March 2019 and marked updated 31 January 2023, so it predates Nigeria's 2025 move to a mandatory pre-departure e-Visa. Its costs are thin, with the only figure being that taxis cost around £1 per ride. It does not sell tours or name operators. Use it for orientation, not for current rules. Our Nigeria e-Visa guide has the current entry process.

What does TourRadar offer?

TourRadar is a marketplace for multi-day group tours. Its Ghana page shows 100+ tours, with featured operators including G Adventures (5.0 from 16,051 reviews), Explore! (4.5 from 11,876), On The Go Tours (4.5 from 2,663), Pro Tour Africa (5.0 from 34) and Olives Travel & Tour Ghana (4.5 from 33). Featured Ghana trips run from US$1,429 for 8 days to US$4,610 for 15 days.

Its Nigeria page is far thinner: it shows 11 Nigeria tours and four verified reviews for Nigeria tours overall. The detailed listings range from US$1,686 to US$3,794 over 5 to 8 days, including a Penguin Travel itinerary rated 4.5 from four reviews and an Osun-Osogbo Festival 2027 tour. TourRadar also discloses that it "earns higher commission on featured adventures", so featured placement reflects commercial terms, not only quality.

What does viewGhana offer?

viewGhana's tour page, dated 24 November 2025 and credited to "the editor", presents 30 guided Ghana tours "all available to book online and starting from just $75", powered by GetYourGuide. It is a convenient way to book a single day, such as a city or heritage outing, with an established platform handling payment.

It names no operators on the page, and it does not describe how tours are chosen or what viewGhana earns. That is fine for a quick booking, but it means you are comparing products, not companies. For a multi-day or multi-country trip you will still need to vet the operator behind each tour.

What does GoWithGuide offer?

GoWithGuide lists independent private guides you can contact directly. For Ghana, its page shows guides across Accra, Kumasi, Central and Brong-Ahafo, describes them as "Screened and Verified via Interviews" and notes that some guides say they hold Ghana Tourism Authority licenses, which are self-reported in their profiles. The sample we saw showed a 5.00 rating from three reviews.

Its strengths are flexibility and a personal guide. Its limits are visible on the page: no prices or fees are shown, the review counts in the sample are tiny, and you are hiring an individual, not a company with back-up if they are unavailable. It suits a short, custom day in Ghana more than a multi-country journey.

Where does Ucomeafrik fit?

Ucomeafrik is a Lagos-based cultural tour company founded in 2009 by Confidence Aguiyi, who still guides tours personally and has led more than 500. It reports a 4.9 rating from 868+ reviews on its TripAdvisor listing, which you can check directly, and it publishes per-person prices on every tour page.

We are an operator, not a marketplace, so we do something none of the five sites does: run the whole trip, including the border crossings. Examples are the 4-day Abuja tour from $975, the 7-day Calabar tour from $1,750, the 9-day Ghana December tour from $2,450 and the 9-day Nigeria, Benin, Togo and Ghana tour from $2,450. Our limits are just as real: fewer departure dates than a global marketplace, and no ATOL or ABTA protection claimed on this page.

Which should you use, and when?

Use Lonely Planet or Africa.com when you are deciding where to go. They are free and good for a shortlist, but verify visas, fees and safety elsewhere.

Use TourRadar when you want a set-date group tour from a recognized operator and want to compare several side by side. Remember that featured placement is commercial.

Use viewGhana (GetYourGuide) or GoWithGuide for a single day or a custom guide in Ghana, and check the tour or guide's recent reviews.

Use Ucomeafrik when your trip spans Nigeria and its neighbors, when you want one guide who also runs the company, or when you want published pricing and direct contact on WhatsApp.

Use someone else if you need a very specific Ghana-only itinerary, a set-date group departure or UK-regulated financial protection. A marketplace operator or a Ghana specialist may fit better, and our guide to the best Ghana tour companies shows who.

How do you avoid the common planning mistakes?

Most trip-planning problems come from using the wrong type of site for the job. Four habits prevent most of them:

  1. Check the date on every page. A guide last updated in 2023 cannot tell you the current visa rules.
  2. Separate inspiration from booking. An editorial site is not an endorsement of any operator.
  3. Ask who runs the trip. On a marketplace, the brand you see is the platform, not the company that guides you.
  4. Compare itemized totals. A "from" price rarely includes everything.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best website for planning a trip to Nigeria?

For inspiration, Lonely Planet and Africa.com are good starting points, but check dates because some pages are years old. For booking, TourRadar lists a small number of Nigeria tours, and a local operator such as Ucomeafrik covers multi-day routes and border crossings.

What is the best website for booking tours in Ghana?

For a single day, viewGhana (powered by GetYourGuide) lists 30 tours from $75. For comparing multi-day group tours, TourRadar lists 100+ Ghana trips. For a private guide, GoWithGuide lists independent guides. Check recent reviews for whichever you choose.

Is TourRadar good for Nigeria?

It can be, but its Nigeria range is limited. The page shows 11 tours and four verified reviews for Nigeria tours overall, with prices from US$1,686 to US$3,794 on the detailed listings. That is a thin review base, so check the operator separately.

Are tour marketplaces safer than booking direct?

Not automatically. A marketplace adds a payment platform and review system, but the guide and service still come from the operator behind the listing. Check that operator's own reviews and the cancellation terms, whichever route you choose.

Is Africa.com up to date for Nigeria travel?

Its Nigeria guide is dated 22 March 2019 and marked updated 31 January 2023, so it predates Nigeria's 2025 e-Visa change. Treat it as orientation and confirm entry rules on the official portal.

Why use a local operator instead of a website?

A website helps you research or book a product. A local operator runs the trip, handles problems on the ground and can connect countries. The trade-off is fewer set departures, so many travelers use sites to research and an operator to deliver.

Does Ucomeafrik list its prices?

Yes. Every tour page shows a per-person price, for example the 4-day Abuja tour from $975 and the 9-day Ghana December tour from $2,450. Message us for an itemized quote you can compare against any site above.
